Extraction refers to the removal or the bulk of the Water after a house floods. Extraction is often the first service performed before any drying equipment is brought into the home. Extraction uses the same equipment used in carpet cleaning and is the primary reason most water damage companies tend to be carpet cleaners as well.
When extracting, carpet cleaners will often remove any carpet pad as this is rarely salvaged. In addition, they will also tab and block all non plastic furniture in the room. Carpet and the foundation are the two main surfaces extracted but tile and wood may require it as well. On very small water damage such as those from a slow leak that was found early, extraction will not be performed.
