Last week it seems like we got call after call from offices in Tyler TX calling our carpet cleaning company needing toner removed from their carpet. So for this week’s post that’s what we will talk about how you can do this yourself.
The first thing is DON’T PANIC! It looks like a permanent stain but toner remover is actually relatively easy. Even though it appears to be a liquid, toner is simply a fine grain powder. Knowing this, the first thing we want to avoid is rubbing the powder into the carpet.
As a first step we want to vacuum out the toner. To do this make sure you use an actual vacuum and not the roller brush types found in many offices. Also, be sure that your vacuum beater bar is set to high. Again, we don’t want the powder to be pushed into the carpet by the vacuum, we just want the suction power of the equipment to remove the toner without agitation. Best case scenario is to use the attachment wand common to many vacuums or a wet dry vac if available.
After the bulk of the toner is vacuumed we want to apply dry cleaning solvent to a clean wet towel. If you do not have any dry cleaner solution, then rubbing alcohol will work as well. Then simply blot the stain over and over until the spot is removed. Make sure NOT to rub the stain since this will push the toner into the carpet and could make matters worse.
Once the toner is removed, you will want to use warm water and a towel to blot again to remove any cleaner solution or alcohol left in the carpet. It is also important to stay off the spot for a few hours until dry. To speed the drying time a small fan should be left on the spot.
As with any other spots or spills that you may be uncomfortable removing, if you live in the Tyler TX area or anywhere else please call your local carpet cleaning professional.
